Theatre Classes Compete at NCTC - November 6, 2009

At Mount Tabor High School , Winston Salem, NC the North Carolina Theatre Conference Regional High School Play Festival was held on Friday, November 6th and Saturday November 7th. 15 plays were presented at this play festival. Several other regional play festivals were being held at other locations throughout North Carolina. 2 plays were chosen to advance to state level competition. The Mount Tabor High School Parados Players performed "Doubt: A Parable", and Forsyth Country Day School performed "So When You Get Married...". These plays will be performed during the state NCTC play festival at Greensboro College, November 19th and 20th.

Some of the plays had only 3 performers in the cast, and others had as many as 25.  Porter Ridge High School's Theatre Arts director, Jessica Briggs, was one of two directors given awards for Best Director. The play "A Walk in My Shoes" which was presented by the Porter Ridge High School Honors Theatre III class, was one of two plays which received awards for Excellence in Ensemble Acting. "The Winner", the play which was presented by the Porter Ridge Honors Theatre IV class, was given an award for Costuming, presented as one of six Theatre Arts Awards, which went to groups for such things as set design, special set pieces, and costuming. There were five awards for Excellence in Acting given to male performers, and five given to female performers. Luke Tucker, from the Porter Ridge High School Honors Theatre IV class, was awarded one of the five for Excellence in Acting, male performer. The play festival was a wonderful experience for performers, and observers.
