The National College Fair will be this Sunday, March 21 from 12:00 -4:00pm at The Park (formerly the Charlotte Merchandise Mart). Attendance is highly recommended for anyone planning to go to a four year college. For more information go to www.nacacnet.org.
- AP Students- Payment for your AP exams is due to Mrs. Zak in guidance by Friday, March 19th. If you have any questions, please see her in guidance.

If you are interested in attending the Walter Bickett Cosmetic Arts and Sciences Academy and you are a rising 11th grader, please see Mrs. Zak in guidance. You must be able to commit two full course blocks of time your junior and senior years. You must be able to attend a full day summer school (8-5) for at least seven weeks. You must purchase a cosmetology kit for $430.

NCSU Design Camps is designed for students organized by Contemporary Art Museum at NC State's College of Design. This camp informs students about college study in design and raises awareness of the impact of art and design through a series of week long summer programs. - The Henry S. and Carolyn Adams Scholarship Fund is a $4000 scholarship offered to a high school senior with a minimum GPA of a 3.0 with substantial need for financial assistance (preference is given to students planning to attend Wingate University or Lenoir Rhyne College. If you are interested in being nominated for this scholarship, please see Mrs. Zak in guidance. Nominations are due by March 25th, for the final nominee to be chosen by Mr. Basden.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee is offering two $500 scholarships to deserving seniors who are planning on attending college. Please pick up an application in guidance. Applications must be in to Mrs. Zak by March 30, 2010.

Janice M. Scott Memorial Fund of $2500! If you have a 2.5 GPA or higher, are a US citizen, and have demonstrated leadership abilities through community service and extra curricular activities you are eligible for the JMSMSF. See Mrs. Zak for an application. The deadline is March 31, 2010.

The People to People Leadership Summit is this summer. It is a great opportunity to student who are interested in leadership and citizenship. If you are interested in applying, see Mrs. Zak in guidance by April 1, 2010. After you are nominated you will receive more information about applying from the Leadership Summit.

The Greater Charlotte Bowling Scholarship Fund provides a $1500 scholarship to graduating seniors who have themselves or parents hold current membership in the US Bowling Congress and the Greater Charlotte USBC Association. You must have a GPA of 2.6 or higher. Applications are available with Mrs. Zak in guidance. Deadline is April 30, 2010.

The S.A.T. will be given at Porter Ridge on Saturday, May 1st. At this time half of the slots have been filled. Porter Ridge students who want to take the test here on that date need to go online soon and register.

Ask-A-Counselor Days! On Wednesdays, counselors will be available for assistance during all lunches. They will answer any questions you might have, whether it be about your transcript, or information about college.

The Great Race will be Thursday, April 22nd at 6:00 pm. Interested racers must form a four man team and develop a team name. To register, you must email your team name and 4 members names to thegreatrace2010@yahoo.com starting March 18th . The first 20 teams will race.

Attention seniors! Your pictures and questionnaire for the senior memory book can be turned into Mr. Hertz in the Student Council Office in Upper G during 3rd block... please stop by if you have any questions.
- Ms. Yearick is also looking for about 10 to 15 great race crew members to help set up the Race on April 22nd. You cannot run the race if you are on the set up crew. Please see her ASAP if interested.

The Theatre II class will be presenting an evening of Tragedy scenes, March 25th at 7:00pm in the Auditorium. Come out to see a great show for a great cause. The multicultural club is continuing the work of the Haiti Relief. Our goal is to raise at least $1000 and we strong encourage your participation. There are two ways you can donate money for the relief; you can either donate $1 or $2 and have your name displayed in a shape of a heart or you can purchase an amazing instrumental CD recorded by Sam Heda, local artist. (who actually is a student from our own PRMS!) for only $5. For more info please visit the tables at lunch or see Jerusalem Haile or Mrs. Richert. PORTER RIDGE, HAITI NEEDS YOU!

Those students who are planning or are interested in the June 2010 Close Up Trip to Washington, need to check in with Mr. Korn in F-208 to either pick up the necessary information or to let him know if you are still planning to go. The deadline for the first installment of $100.00 to lock in your place on the trip is due on Friday, March 19th. If there is a question or a problem please see Mr. Korn. Please don't delay, as this program will truly be a great experience.

Attention Students! Honor a hard-working, dedicated teacher in your life by nominating them for a Pirate Pearl Award. If you have been felt the positive effect of a teacher who has reached out to you and personalized your learning, we want to know about it. Fill out a Pirate Pearl nomination form located in the Main Office, Guidance, Media Center, or G202 and submit to one of the many turn in boxes throughout the school. Nomination forms are located on the new Student Council link on the Porter Ridge Web Site. Write a short explanation of how the teacher affected your learning in a positive wayand how your feltabout their efforts. A little time on your part to honor a teacher will go a long way.
- FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH…..Attention New Century Scholar Students, as well as anyone that needs community service hours. On March 27th, South Piedmont Community College will be holding a Child Care Association Conference and needs volunteers to assist with passing out programs, escorting clients, setting up and cleaning up. If interested in earning up to 8 hours of community service hours, please see Mr. Cummings in E201 to sign up and get more information. The last day to sign up is March 19th.

The next Driver's Ed. class is April 12, 2010. The class will be in G114 and the times are 3:05 - 6:05. Students please check the rosters posted in G114, in guidance, and in the main office. If you cannot attend, please contact Mr. Hunsucker in G114.

Attention all rising juniors and seniors! Applications for next year's Student Council Leadership Class are now available. If your are interested in enrolling in Mr. Hertz's 3rd period Leadership Class, or running for a class office this year,application packets are available through your counselor, or simply visit the Student Council office in G202. Applications will be accepted through the month of March. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 26th. See Mr. Hertz in G211 if you have any questions.
